SYMBOLISM OF
CHANUKAH VICTORY
The Hasmoneans,
by their
self-sacrifice, demonstrated that the inner light of Torah
can never be extinguished. This holds true for all times.
Each generation of exile presents a dark night specific to
itself. Torah prevails over them all.
This
is symbolized by the miracle of the oil, which continued to
burn for eight days. The Rabbis chose this to symbolize the
victory of Chanukah because they wanted us to reflect on the
eternal significance of this miracle.
